I’m back from Chicago and BlogHer 07, my first blogging/blog-related conference. I tried to post about some of the non-conference things that we did in Chicago (and you’ll see a few more of those posts over the next few weeks), but I’m also trying to take stock of how I feel about the whole conference […]

An evening of music under the stars doesn’t get much better than when you’re sitting in a natural amphitheater, and one of the more legendary ones is the Hollywood Bowl.
The Hollywood Bowl (2301 North Hollywood, Hollywood, California) was originally built in 1922, and consisted of simple wooden benches in the natural hillside of Bolton […]

What’s a girl to do with a little free time in Chicago? Wander the Magnificent Mile, of course!
The Magnificent Mile is a shopper’s paradise, located along a section of North Michigan Avenues. You’ll with upscale specialty stores (Tiffany’s, Burberry, Armani, Hermes), some major department stores (Sak’s - my personal favorite, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus), […]

I was out walking around Chicago with a friend this afternoon, and we decided to grab a late lunch. We stopped into an upscale urban market to browse for something to pick up and take back to the room.
There was a nice looking pizza bar, so I selected a piece of my favorite pie, […]

Another post in the genre of unusual food, and, at least to me, further proof that I won’t try everything.
After spending some time researching unique dishes, I went out for a very civilized Italian meal here in Chicago. More on the less adventurous cuisine of the Windy City (at least as compared to insects and […]

I can’t imagine being in New Orleans without eating some great Creole or Cajun food. Or being in Texas without having barbecue. Or missing out on barbecue in Texas or lobster in Maine. Regional cuisine gives us a little sample of local culture.
But insects? In Pismo […]

I didn’t know very much about Pinot Noir wines until I saw the movie Sideways, with a plot loosely woven around this red wine. To be perfectly honest, I still don’t know much about it today. I’ve always thought that the wine was pretty thin, lacking in much flavor or texture.
Turns out, I may […]

Details: I flew over the Grand Canyon a few days ago, and while my personal photos didn’t turn out very well (shot through the window of the airplane), I found one that did seem to convey the size and grandeur of this natural wonder.

If you’ll be traveling to Washington State, don’t text and drive! Washington became the first state to enact legislation prohibiting drivers from reading or composing text messages while operating a motor vehicle. The law goes into effect January 1st, 2008.
Driving laws vary from state to state, and this is a good reminder to check […]
