January Carnival of Travelers: I Heart Art

Welcome to the January 7, 2008 edition of Carnival of Travelers.
Thanks to everyone who submitted articles for inclusion in the Carnival.  The theme for January was “Art,” giving bloggers lots of options to choose from.  I have included all submissions that were in keeping with the theme.
Take a read and see what these bloggers […]

Lions & Tigers & Bears & Oh My!

When I went to see finalists and winners of the 2007 Nature’s Best Photography International Awards, I expected to see those lions and tigers and bears, but what was on display there was a whole lot more than that.
I saw the award winners of this competition last year, and since I’m a big fan of […]

Art & Wine in Tuscany

The Tuscany region of Italy
Continuing with my geography awareness week of posts, I move on to the continent of Europe.
There are so many places in Europe that I’d like to visit that it was hard coming up with a destination to discover.  Well, actually it wasn’t hard to come up dozens of places that I’d […]

Last Chances to See King Tut

Earlier this year I wrote about a great trip to Philadelphia, and a chance to view the Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs  exhibit at the Franklin Institute (222 North 20th Street. 20th & Benjamin Franklin Parkway).
If you’ve been putting off visiting the exhibit, you have about a week and a half left before […]

Thursday Night Villagefest Along Palm Canyon Drive

The weekly Thursday night Villagefest is one of my favorite events in Palm Springs.  The event was originated by former mayor Sonny Bono, and for over 16 years has been the home for local vendors of food, fresh produce (straight from the farms), music, art, handicrafts, and entertainment.
Villagefest operates year round, from 6 - 10 pm, October […]

Music From the Summer of Love

I was thinking about the Summer of Love, and some of the great music that came out of that era.
Just browsing the list of music that the Whitney has put together to accompany the Summer of Love exhibit, finds these classics from the 1967-psychedelic era:
The Beatles:  “All You Need is Love” from Magical Mystery Tour […]

Revisit the Summer of Love at the Whitney in NYC

1967. . . It was the Summer of Love.  A time of music, a time of civil unrest, a time to just be.  It was a time of hanging in Haight Ashbury, demonstrating against the war and the establishment, and a time when music united the masses.  It was the beginning of a social change […]

You & Rocky Balboa at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Rocky Balboa (played by Sylvester Stallone) trained for his big fight against Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers) by running up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  While it didn’t look like a big time training regimen in the movie, after walking up those steps, I can see how running them several times […]

Green Architecture Before its Time: Frank Lloyd Wright & Taliesin West

Frank Lloyd Wright is probably the best known American architect, with a body of work that has influenced and shaped the course of building in this country.  His former home, Taliesin West (pronounced Tally-ehssen) in Scottsdale, Arizona, has become the international headquarters for the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, and is also open for public tours.
Taliesin […]

LEGO Art on Display at Discovery Center Museum

Nathan Sawaya is a lawyer who always played with LEGO. As a child, it was just fun. As a lawyer, it was a way to relax and de-stress at the end of the day. A number of years ago, Nathan ditched his day job (as a lawyer) and became a full time artist. His medium […]
