Fog Rolls in on the Island of Capri

After a sunny day exploring the island of Capri, it was fun to take the chair lift in Anacapri all the way to the very top to take a view of the island and surrounding area.  The fog rolling in on one side of the island created quite a juxtaposition with the sun on the […]

Shopping & Strolling the Champs-Elysees

If the thought of a fine bag, a decadent pair of heels, or the feel of the fabric of a finely crafted suit makes you swoon, then an afternoon on the Champs-Élysées in Paris may be your definition of heaven.
Avenue des Champs-Élysées is not only one of the most recognized street names in Paris, […]

The Cliffs of Sorrento, Along the Amalfi Coast

One more photo from my travels in Italy, this one along the water in Sorrento.  I love the way these hotels and residences are carved into the sides of the hill, offering great views of the area.
Next week it will be back to a regular posting schedule here at Flyaway Cafe.  Vacation is over […]

Walking the Ruins at Pompeii

I’m still traveling, and wanted to share another photo from the road.  This one is of the ruins at Pompeii.  It was a warm day, and I spent hours wandering the ruins and marveling at this ancient civilization.  There’ll be more about this fascinating place in a later post.

Time to Head Off to Amalfi Coast

Today I’m headed down to the Amalfi Coast, where I’ll be staying for a week.  I plan to spend some time wandering the streets and hills of Sorrento and Positano, going over to Capri, and checking out the ruins of Pompeii.
Let’s hope Mt. Vesuvius won’t be erupting while I’m there –

A Look at the Duomo in Florence

I spent a day in Florence getting just a taste of the Renaissance Art of the region.  This photo is of the Duomo, one of many must-see attractions in the city.  (I’ll have lots more details about various parts of my trip to Italy over the next several months, so be sure to keep […]

A Day in the Life of Rural Southeastern France

Today I have a guest post from Leyla Giray from Backpacking Women on the Road.
Now I know what you must be thinking. . . “MJ, you’re not a backpacker.”  Well, that might be true enough, but there’s all sorts of things backpackers can teach the rest of us about travel, and one of those […]

I’ll Soon be Under the Tuscan Sun

After a few days in Rome, I’m off to Tuscany where I’ll be staying at a farmhouse located on a vineyard and olive orchard.  A little agri-tourism, and a relaxing environment, that will serve as a perfect spot for day trips into the charming little towns in the area.
Maybe I’ll fall in love with the […]
