Could YOU be the Travel Photographer of the Year?

by Mary Jo Manzanares on May 18th, 2008

I love looking at travel photos!  They pique my curiosity.  They make me want to visit new places, learn more, and experience different cultures.  They make me dream.  And dream big!

I’ve been working on improving my own photography skills, and learning about composition, lighting, and editing.  I’m making progress, but my rudimentary skills are humbling when I look at the really good stuff.  But it gives me something to shoot for!

If you have some great travel photos, here’s your chance to compete with the best of the best for the title of 2008 Travel Photographer of the Year.

The competition gives both amateur and professional photographers the chance to gain international exposure for their work, in addition to winning some cool prizes.  This year’s prizes include a Everest Skydive Expedition, trips to India and Cuba, and a trip to see the mountain gorillas of Uganda.  (Last year’s winner won a trip to India and an opportunity to photograph the Dalai Lama.)  Other prizes include cash, photographic equipment and accessories.

There are three portfolio categories:  Life, Call of the Wild, and Joy of Travel.  There is a one-shot category:  Destination Anywhere; and also a Young Photographers Category.

New this year is the category First Shot:  Wish You Were Here, a category designed for the less experienced photographers among us.

Check the full listing of categories and and prizes, review the rules, find out how to enter, and then get shooting!

The deadline for entries is September 9th, 2008.

Thanks for sharing this Mary Jo. I am working on improving my skills in the area and like you am often humbled when I see some of the shots that others capture.

I’ll have to check out the details of this contest and see what I can come up with before September.
