Don’t Let Your Mail Pile Up While You’re Gone

by Mary Jo Manzanares on September 4th, 2007

mail box Whenever I’m going to be gone for more than a few days, I put a hold on my mail until I return.  Although my mail is delivered to a locked mail box, it fills up quickly, and having the mail held means that I don’t have to worry about it overflowing.

If you mail is not delivered to a locked mail box, it is even more critical than you put a hold on your mail.  Nothing says “I’m gone, please burglarize or vandalize my home” faster than overflowing mail.

Since I’m getting ready to leave for Paris in a few days, holding the mail is one of those items on my to-do list.

Mail can usually be held for as few as three days and for as long as a month, specifying a return date, and whether your wish to pick up the held mail or want it delivered.  You can pick up a hold form at your local post office, or do as I just did, use the online hold service.

One more item that I can cross off my to-do list!
