Flight Attendant Friday: Window or Aisle
Q: What’s the best seat to choose — window or aisle?
Ruling out the middle seat is easy. I mean, no one wants to be stuck between two people hogging the seat and armrest space. But other than that, you’re really on your own on this one.
I prefer an aisle seat. It’s hard for me to sit for any length of time, and with an aisle seat I can get up without bothering my seat mates. If I am stuck by the window, I always feel bad having to disturb people as I scoot out of my seat and head to the lavatory.

I flew Southwest yesterday for the first time and had the opportunity to choose my seat. I chose window. I always choose window.
This was a short flight - no movies, no real distractions. But even with longer flights, I like staring out of the window. I find it both calming and interesting.
I remember flying to Singapore with my younger brother - we were practically killing each other to see out of the window. We first flew to LA from NC (via Pittsburgh, go figure) and got to fly over the Grand Canyon. I can’t explain how cool that was to see from the plane.
I figure you miss out when you sit in the aisle.
And as a middle child who spent her youth squished between two brothers in the back seat of a Pinto, I’ll never vote middle! ;)

Aisle for me…though I like the emergency exit…being 6′1″, a little leg room is nice. Though I must admit, on my 18 hour flight to Thailand…it was not the most comfortable place…it was right by the bathroom!

I like the window seat. No one bumps me as they go down the isle. Nothing falls on me from over stuffed overhead bins. And, besides, I rather like to look out on what we are flying over.

I’m right there with you Mary Jo. I always choose the aisle because I feel like I have more freedom. Especially if I’m enjoying a few cocktails on the flight and need to make frequent trips to the restroom ;)
