Flight Attendant Shopping: Dilettante Chocolates
A pilot who was commuting on one of my flights the other day brought a gift to the crew, a container of chocolates.
This is not an uncommon practice, and is a way of showing the people that do the same job that you do, how much you appreciate them. As long as the proffered goodies are sealed, so that you know that they have not been contaminated, most crews graciously accept these small gifts.
For some reason, my fellow crew members tasted the chocolates, but then passed on taking any with them, leaving almost the entire container left for me. And that was a truly wonderful thing, because I think I’ve now found my new favorite chocolate specialty candy.
The candies were Bing Cherries in milk chocolate from Dilettante Chocolates. When I got home, I checked the website to see what I could learn about the scrumptious chocolates.
First of all, they are called Fruit Dragees. Here’s what the company says about them:
Dragee is a French term which comes from the word “to dredge”, describing the action of the revolving pans that coat our dried fruits and nuts with chocolate. They are the connoisseur’s ultimate snack food
The Chocolate Bing cherries are only available through the website as part of a medley. But, there’s also a Dragee Club, where you can get a monthly sampling of dragees for an entire year.
It looks like I’ll need to make a visit to a Dilettante Café to buy just the Bing Cherries Dragee. Good thing that there is one conveniently located at Sea-Tac International Airport.
Other locations around the greater Seattle area include: Broadway (Capitol Hill), Cherry Street, Pike Place Market, Kent Station, Rainier Square, Bellevue, and the Westlake Mall.
Maybe, I’ll be getting some of the treats in my trick-or-treat bag this Halloween.

The Dilettante chocolate cherries are available at Super Walmart, of all places. They’re packaged 8 oz. for $2.58, and based on the website, that’s quite a bargain. I found a shelf of gourmet chocolates in the candy section of two different stores.
