Fuel Cost Calculator

by Mary Jo Manzanares on June 28th, 2006

If you still haven’t made a decision about whether to take off over the upcoming 4th of July weekend, your options get more limited with each passing moment.

Airline tickets are going to be pretty hard, if not impossible, to come by at this point. And if you can find them, they are likely to be going for a pretty high price.

That pretty much means car travel for most of us.

With the price of gas increasing on an almost daily basis, it will take careful planning to make sure that the price of gas doesn’t surpass the cost of an airline ticket.

To help you budget for your weekend getaway, try the AAA Fuel Cost Calculator. You just put in your starting city, your destination, and vehicle information using the drop down menus. The miles are calculated for you, along with as estimate of the amount of gas you will use. Using current gasoline prices from AAA’s daily reports, the cost of fuel will be calculated for you as well.

Here’s a sample I generated using my specific vehicle information, and a random destination from Seattle, Washington:

Results
Start City: WA, Seattle
End City: CA, San Francisco
One-Way Trip: 801 Miles
28.61 Gallons Used
$88.96 Fuel Cost
Round-Trip: 1602 Miles
57.22 Gallons Used
$177.92 Fuel Cost
