Gifts for Travelers: Digital Camera
A digital camera is a great gift for a traveler. I know, because I got one as a birthday gift. (Thank you, thank you, THANK you!)
I love it! It’s small enough to keep in my purse, or a pocket, and I have it with me all the time. No more excuses for having left a camera at home! Just the other day a friend said, “I wish I brought a camera?” I smiled, waved my hand and replied, “I have mine.” We took some photos, and now have memories of that time together.
You may also want to consider extra batteries for the camera, a carrying case, larger memory card. A lesson or two, or a day out practicing, is also a great idea!
I readily admit that I don’t have a great eye when it comes to taking photos. While I dream of having the perfect shot, suitable for framing, my reality is that I just want to take photos that will help me remember my travels: the places I’ve been, the people I’ve met, the experiences with family and friends, funny situations, and photos that I can include on my blogs. Anything more than that is icing on my proverbial cake.
So far, I’ve mastered a few things, being tutored along the way by a friend who I think does great work! Sure, I have a long list of things left to learn, including lots of things in the photo editing process, but since I have a lifetime of travels ahead of me, I figure that I have lots of time to master these skills.
The purchase of a digital camera as a gift involves taking into consideration the level of skill the person has, their learning curve and motivation, how it will be used, and what they want to take photos of. There are lots of choices out there, and lots of bells and whistles, so ask a few questions and find the right match. A quick google search will help you find several sites where you can compare features, helping to narrowing down the best options.
A digital camera would make a great gift, and I can guarantee that the recipient will love you for it!
