Looking for FREE Booze When You Travel?

by Mary Jo Manzanares on June 30th, 2007

Bar Aren’t we all?

Seriously, though, if you think of yourself as an urban hipster but have a very modest budget for drinking, you’ll want to check out My Open Bar, a website dedicated to listing the latest in nightlife, drink specials and parties.

Currently, information is only available in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.  It will be coming soon to Boston, Washington DC, and Seattle.

Here’s a sample listing from the San Francisco edition:

Hemlock Tavern, 1131 Polk Street, at Hemlock Street (Nob Hill)

On the first Monday of every month, Hemlock hosts a special edition of their Punk rock Sideshow, in which any band (that means yours) can play for free drinks between 9 and 10. After that DJs Tragic and the Duchess of Hazard spin whatever records people send them. Drink specials and movies playing all night. Contact them if you want to play. Otherwise stay away. You’re not punk enough.

There are lots of places offering free drinks, while others offer greatly reduced prices, or nightly specials.  Great ways to extend your probably already over-extended entertainment budget — especially if you’re an urban hipster.

It’s also a great reference for something to do when you’re a little over-extended on your expense account, or your travel budget is running a little low.
