Monday’s Money Saving Tips

money1.jpgHere are this week’s money saving travel tips:

  • When you make your hotel reservations, ask if there are any add-on fees that will be charged to the rate that you are quoted.  There are always taxes charged, and while you may not like paying them, but the state and/or city government legally levies them, and there’s no getting around it. However, beware of hotel add-ons that are not included in the rate that you are quoted.  These could be:  resort fee, safe fee, energy surcharge, holiday surcharge, etc.  Some of these fees can be waived, so ask.  At check in, confirm once again that there are no additional add-on fees.  It may sound like over-kill, but asking, and asking again, can prevent surprise charges at check out.
  • If you are traveling to a large metropolitan area, with several airports serving it, check out airfares flying into each airport.  Usually there is one that will be cheaper than the others.  Consider this option, unless the savings is eliminated by ground transportation once you get there.
  • Speaking of ground transportation, try to use public transportation from the airport to your ultimate destination whenever possible.  Trains, public buses, hotel van service, and subways are all cheaper than taking a cab or car service.  Private shuttle companies, scheduled transfer buses and vans, and airporter services usually are as well.  Consider how many people will be traveling in your party, and if the per person costs start adding up, the cab or car service may become cheaper.

That’s all the money saving travel tips for this Monday.  You can make sure that you never miss a money saving tip by subscribing to the Flyaway Café newsletter.  Just enter your email address in the subscription box at right.
