Money Saving Travel Tips for Monday, December 4th
December is one of those months where extra expenses seem to crop up all over the place, so hopefully these money saving tips will help take the sting out of your travel budget.
- There’s still another week or so before the mad frenzy of holiday travel begins, and right now the planes are generally not full. This means that there are some great fares available. If you haven’t finished (or started) your holiday shoppingl, consider taking advantage of the low fares and take a short trip to a shopping mecca. Get your shopping done and have a mini-vacation, too. (Thanks to Trish at Travels with Tish for this tip.)
- Hotel occupancy rates are also down right now, as very few conferences or conventions are scheduled during December. As a way to boost occupancy, there are lots of special hotel packages available. Whether it’s reduced room rates, or lots of extras thrown in (dinner, drinks, massages, transportation, etc.) it’s worth taking a look. You may even want to get a hotel in your own home town and play tourist for a weekend.
- Consider a job in the travel industry. If you read the papers at all, you know that the airline industry has had a heap-o-trouble the last few years, but they still are desirable jobs. Consider also: cruise lines, travel agencies, tour companies, hotels, etc. All jobs in the travel industry offer some type of travel discount(s). Some are better than others. So if you really consider travel to be a part of your way of life, you may want to make it part of your working life as well.
That’s it for this week! If you have a money saving travel tip, just email me.
