Money Saving Travel Tips for Monday, September 18th

After a two-week hiatus, I’m back ““ with more money saving travel tips.

Travel off-season and save a bundle. This is a popular money saving option for flight attendants who must also stress about getting seats on full planes. Think snow destinations when it’s summer: Most ski resorts offer plenty of vacation options during the summer. Also, think exotic beach locations in the summer. Hawaii and the Caribbean have lower rates in the warm weather as opposed to what can be sky-high rates during our coldest time of year.
Step away from the mini-bar. Although many hotels are removing them from the rooms, you’ll still likely to encounter them. These items are not free; they’re not even reasonably priced. You can walk down the hall to get a soda from a machine for less than half the price of the mini bar charge. I think the mini bar was designed for guests who have unchallenged expense accounts, guests trying too hard to impress someone, or for the hopelessly drunk who don’t have a clue about how much they are really spending.
Mention your group. If you are attending a convention or conference, be sure to mention that when making your hotel or car rental reservation. Many businesses will quote you a special rate, even if you’re not staying at the conference hotel.
