New Ways to Call a Cab

by Mary Jo Manzanares on July 3rd, 2007

Schedule a taxi Calling a cab just got a little bit easier with 1-800-Cab Ride, a service allowing you to get a quote on a cab ride, schedule the ride, and pay for it, all online.

A visit to check out the website, and to check out what it would cost me to get a cab to pick me up before my next trip, proved to be quick, easy, and accurate.  The ride would cost $48, including tax and tip, and I could schedule the date and time that I needed.

Price quotes are for point to point trips, and do not include stops, detours or waiting times.  For airport pickups, passengers call after arrival, and a five minute pickup wait is allowed.  A standard tip is also include, along with any fees like tolls or airport fees, and the whole thing is paid for, in advance, and online.

The company has agreements with companies nationwide, so you don’t need to go checking out what companies operate in which cities.  You can make all your plans from one place.  And since 1-800-CabRide has negotiated set fees with the companies, you will likely find that it saves you a fair (fare?) amount of money!

That’s a great convenience for the frequent traveler.

They should set up something like that in Asia where the “going rate” can fluctuate immensely. But if you don’t have something set up there you can always negotiate a price before you step in the cab (a little off topic but a tip with southeast Asian cabbies).
