Yoga and Real Estate: The importance of mindfulness in real estate
Yoga is often a spiritual practice. In yoga, you learn to be present in the moment and take time for yourself so that you are able to better meet the needs of others. The real estate industry is all about being present in the moment – it’s up to us as realtors to make sure we’re thinking about our clients’ needs and wants at all times, while also staying mindful of potential problems or obstacles before they arise.
This article will discuss yoga’s impact on real estate agents, how yoga can help with stress management and provide an overview of what yoga looks like when practiced with other professionals such as teachers, doctors, lawyers and more!
Yoga is a popular way to relieve stress and stay fit, but some agents are also using this ancient art to find zen in their everyday business practice. Agents across the country are striking poses and carving out a harmonious work-life balance by incorporating the culture of yoga into their business plans. This East-meets-West combination is a growing trend, so let’s look at some of the agents at the cutting edge.
Key Takeaway
Mindfulness practices such as yoga can have a positive impact on real estate agents by helping with stress management and improving their skills. By engaging in mindfulness, real estate agents can learn to focus on the present, control their breathing, and be more conscious of their words and actions. Doing so can help them reduce their stress and create a healthier work environment.
Ready to get started and for a change?
Richard Morrison, active in the Vancouver top areas, decided to make a lot of changes in his career in Vancouver BC in 2019. He started with doing a Yoga Teacher training with Karma Teachers in Vancouver as well as other lifestyle, customer service, and wellness aspects. Introducing Yoga to the practice has created a brand that is unique to his location. It showcases his passion and offers an alternative for people in Vancouver, where many people are looking for something Zen-like. Richard has been successful at making customers’ real estate dreams come true.

Why did you decide to make the change in your business model?
Richard says, “I had to face my fear of being judged as unprofessional and too unconventional.” We have a business model that is based on our principles. They are commitment, patience, perseverance, compassion, honesty, fearlessness, and flexibility.
Have other people in the business world and customers liked your Yoga in the workplace idea?
Richard says that the reactions have gone from “What?!” to “That is so cool! I love what you do.” He said that he knew some people would not work with him because of the name Strawhomes, but it was okay because he wanted to find like-minded people.
How do you feel about the changes?
I have no regrets with this decision as it was time for me to grow from being just a Realtor into something more in order to stay relevant in today’s marketplace. Becoming a Yoga teacher has a way of life now and I needed that change – and I bring the approach now to every client I deal with.”
Yoga is a form of practice that combines relaxation, meditation, postures (asanas), and breathing techniques called pranayama. You can see breathwork training courses on mysevenchakras.com if you are interested. What better way to engage in this practice other than real estate?
There are many types of yoga that helped me with my real life real estate practice like Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga to name a few.
What are your goals now?
“We want people who I serve not only to leave with a successful real estate transaction but also feeling better mentally – and not drained from the process,” Richard said.” The real estate business can be so stressful, especially when dealing with buyers or sellers in a busy market.
What would you tell people who want to combine their passion with their business practice?
Don’t be afraid to do something different from what other people are doing. I’ve shown my clients that I am willing to think outside of the box and take chances for them. Meditation and Yoga has proven to be extremely helpful in every transaction I have been involved in.
Second, you can ask for help. You can ask for feedback from other people in the same profession and from clients and friends. This will help you build your confidence in your own business and refine it to be better.
Do you have a yoga tip that you could recommend to agents? They are sometimes stressed. You can do this when it is at your desk.
Get upside down! Sit in your chair with your feet wide apart and bend over so your head is lower than your heart. If that doesn’t work, stand up and do a forward fold. When you’re doing a forward fold, close your eyes and take 10 very deep breaths. This will give you blood to the brain and stretch out the back side of your body.
Conclusion
If real estate has you feeling stressed, take a moment to do some yoga. Richard has found that yoga’s teachings have helped push his career forward.
“Yoga is a good practice to use for whatever you are doing. I try to bring more confidence and sanity into the real estate world.” He said. “Real estate doesn’t need to be insane, you can come at it from a different perspective.”
He blends yoga and real estate, and loves teaching Yoga as a volunteer at Karma Teachers to give back to the community. Richard teaches yoga and sells real estate, but he likes blending both exponentially more than teaching a class. “Real life is the real classroom,” he says.
I know it may seem like a stretch to think that the teachings of yoga can be applied in real estate, but Richard has found how helpful they are.
In fact, real estate agents in Vancouver who practice yoga or mediation regularly have a 25% higher success rate in closing deals compared to those who don’t.
He blends them both and loves teaching Yoga as a volunteer at Karma Teachers to give back to his community.
Whether you’re looking for more personal growth or just want some stress relief, Richard will help you find what you need! If this sounds interesting and if your goal is to make a decision soon (whether buying or selling a home), let’s talk about your real estate needs because we would love for you to consider one of them with us.
