Room with a View
When I got to my room after my flight yesterday, I went over to look out the window. I always do this. It helps me get my bearings and a sense of where I am.
When I looked out, I saw eight large air conditioning units, six large vents of some type (including one located directly in front of my window), all on a messy rooftop strewn with various hoses, pipes, and barriers. I knew that I wouldn’t be spending much time writing while looking out at this view.
Since I was on a layover, it’s really not appropriate to complain about my view. After all, someone else is paying — and paying as little as possible at that.
Still, I try to use this time to write, and I feel most in the mood, when I have something scenic to look out upon.
So I was really in the mood to consider a move taken by the Travelodge at the London City Airport: They have window transfers for the windows and you can choose the view you’d like.
Here are the reported top ten choices for views:
- Caribbean Beach
- Northern Lights
- Niagara Falls
- Blue skies and sunshine
- Lake Windermere
- Manhattan Skyline
- Sydney Harbor Bridge
- Ayres Rock, Australia
- Pyramids and Sphinx, Egypt
- Taj Majal, India
While I’m guessing that these views aren’t terrific art renderings, anything would be better than looking at what I had to yesterday.

Wow, those sound pretty nifty! I’m thinking they could be great for any window that has a crap view.

Hey! I think that I’ve stayed in that same room (or one just like it!).

I’d like to be in a room that actually has those views!

What I meant was that I’ve stayed in the rooms with the views of the pipes and hoses. I’ve also stayed in a room that overlooked the dumpster. Then, there was the room whose window opened up onto a 4 foot wide alley, facing a featureless (except for mold and mildew) blank brick wall. lol.

*g* I wouldn’t turn down rooms that actually had those views either!
