Stay at a Lighthouse on the Northern California Coast
A room is a room is a room — unless it’s something special or different — and that what the Lighthouse Inn at Point Cabrillo is offering its guests.
The California coast bed and breakfast offers six room, four in the restored Head Lightkeeper’s House and two in Garden Cottages, the latter of which are wheelchair accessible, overlooking the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse and Light Station. The rooms combine a vintage style with modern comforts, and the surrounding 300-acre nature preserve provides a home to area wildlife along with a spectacular, and unobstructed, view of the Pacific Ocean and bluffs. Time your visit carefully and you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of whales frolicking in the water below the Inn.
Guests can ease into their day relaxing with a cup of organic Lightkeeper’s coffee (or specialty teas), and then enjoy a five-course gourmet breakfast with menu items prepared from organically grown products for neighborhood gardens, farms, and ranches.
What else is there to do at the Lighthouse Inn?
Continue your day with a visit to the Lighthouse, the next-door Lightkeeper’s Museum, exploring the trails on the top of the bluff, of just relaxing and enjoying nature at its best. The nearby communities of Mendocino Village and Fort Bragg offer up some shops, and wineries, tasting rooms and restaurants are all a short drive away. The Inn offers Wine and hors d’oeuvres each afternoon, and if you really must work, there is wi-fi high speed internet access. End the day with a private night tour of the working Lighthouse (given by the current Lightkeeper) for a unique view of the water and landscape.
All the room have a private bathroom, queen beds, and sitting areas. All have ocean views, with the most spectacular view from the Lighthouse Room. Room rates vary, but run generally in the $150-250 range, depending on time of visit and room selection. Rates include breakfast, wine and hors d’oeuvres, and the night time tour of the Lighthouse. A two-night minimum stay is required on weekends, and a three-night minimum stay is required on holiday weekends. Children under 15 cannot be accommodated, nor can pets.
The Lighthouse Inn is located at 45300 Lighthouse Road, Mendocino, California. You can make your Lighthouse Inn reservations online.
The Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, holds a management and concession contract for the Light Station, and coordinates site management, restoration, preservation, and the management of the Lighthouse Inn at Point Cabrillo. All net revenues derived from the Inn and public donations are invested in the restoration, reconstruction, maintenance, educational programs, and operational management of the Light Station.
