Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in its 66th Year
Vacations are different things to different people.
For some people, it’s about relaxation — the beach, an upscale resort, a spa, being waited on hand and foot. For others, it’s about culture — museums, art, good food, architecture. Still others, like my friend Jerry, are looking for an adventure — something different than every day life.
Jerry is a motorcycle enthusiast. He is a member of the Gold Wing Touring Association, and the Christian Motorcyclist Association. He’ll occasionally pay me a visit on his bike. I’ll climb on back, and off we’ll go. With a speaker and microphone system on the helmets, we can easily communicate. In fact, a number of business problems have been solved in just this way.
This past week, after nine months of planning, Jerry is off on a trip he has thought about for a long time. A trip that fans the flames of biking enthusiasts around the country. A trip to Sturgis, South Dakota, for the biggest motorcycle rally in the world.
Jerry’s been writing about his experiences on his journey, and I’ve enjoyed following his adventures, and chuckling at his misadventures. It’s not the kind of vacation that I’d choose to take, but darn if he doesn’t make it sound fun.
