Flight Attendant Friday: What To Do on Layovers

This is another question that I’m asked frequently.

Q.  What do you do on layovers?
A.  It depends, of course, on the destination and the length of time of the layover.  Here are some typical choices:

Slam Click.  Slamming the hotel door, clicking the lock, and enjoying time alone in the room, away from people.  It’s time [...]

Walking the Ruins at Pompeii

I’m still traveling, and wanted to share another photo from the road.  This one is of the ruins at Pompeii.  It was a warm day, and I spent hours wandering the ruins and marveling at this ancient civilization.  There’ll be more about this fascinating place in a later post.

A Look at the Duomo in Florence

I spent a day in Florence getting just a taste of the Renaissance Art of the region.  This photo is of the Duomo, one of many must-see attractions in the city.  (I’ll have lots more details about various parts of my trip to Italy over the next several months, so be sure to keep [...]

A Sunny Day at the Vatican

I’m bringing you another photo from my trip to Italy, this one of Saint Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.
I’m in Tuscany now, and hope to share some additional photos from my week here at a farmhouse.

My First View of Rome

Rome has been wonderful so far, and I regret that my time here was so short.  Everywhere you turn there is such a sense of history and wonder.
My first real impression of the city was coming up from the subway (Colosseo stop) and finding this in front of you.  It literally took my [...]

Wanted: Great Travel Stories

In just a little over two weeks, I’ll be heading for Italy.  My plans are to stay a couple days in Rome, then head out to Tuscany for a week, then down to the Amalfi coast for a week, and then back to Rome.  While I will have internet access for part of the time, [...]

Flight Attendant Friday: Dating Pilots

Today’s question comes from a reader who asked to remain anonymous.

Q.  Have you ever dated a pilot?  Isn’t that pretty common?
A.  No.
I don’t know that the pilot/flight attendant dating scene is any different than any other work environment.  Sure, it happens - both short and long term, but probably no more than lawyers [...]

Flight Attendant Friday (the Saturday Edition): Air Sickness

Today’s question (or rather yesterday’s question) about the life of a Flight Attendant comes from fellow b5media blogger, Tris at Maple Leaf 2.0

Q:  Do you get airsick?
A:  Remarkably, no.  I say “remarkably” because I do get car sick.
I don’t recall having this problem as a child, so I’m not sure when it started [...]

After the Groundhog saw his shadow, and we realized we were doomed to another six weeks of winter weather, here’s what caught your attention:

Green Architecture Before its Time:  Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin West.  Making its second appearance as the most popular post, this was written last summer.  I think its continued popularity is due to [...]

Slurp Up a Tuba!

I discovered a drink called “tuba” that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else.  At first I was a little hesitant to give it a try. It’s typically found on the the streets and beaches, not necessarily the best places to give new food a try.  But try it I did, and it [...]
