Travelers’ Century Club is for the Well Traveled

by Mary Jo Manzanares on March 23rd, 2007

one-hundred.jpgI heard about the Travelers’ Century Club from fellow blogger, Gadling, and had to check it out.

Basically, it’s an organization whose membership is limited to people who have visited 100 or more countries of the world. It was founded in Los Angeles in 1954, and now has members throughout the world.

“Countries” are defined pursuant to s specific list, and may be a little different than how you might typically think. For example, the United States has three different “country” classifications, continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii.

In addition to meetings, the TCC offers a variety of events and travel opportunities (including escorted trips) for the discerning traveler.

The initiation fee is $100 for the member, and $100 to include a spouse. Yearly dues are $40/$30 for U.S. residents, and $50 each (member and spouse) for residents of other countries.

Although you cannot yet qualify as a full member, if you’ve visited 75 or more countries, you are welcome to attend club meetings and participate in club tours.

I’ve counted up the “countries” that I’ve visited, and I’m at a paltry 13. How about you? How many countries have you visited?

You are both ahead of me — and I work in the industry.

It’s time to stop going back to my favorite places and go somewhere new. I’ve got my eye on some things for later this year!

Really strange. Talking to a friend on Saturday and he said he was up to 75, and I thought; hmmm, how many have I been to? Not many I suspect. And now you write this!

I think living in Europe is a bit of an advantage, as we have 67 on our list, but even so, you should get out more. Did I mention Italy? :-)

Actually, I reckon I could get to five countries within three hours from my desk, so I really am cheating and I only get to 33…

    Australia
    continental US
    Trinida and tobago
    Grenada
    St Lucia
    Barbados
    Madeira
    Austria
    Belgium
    Crete
