Try a Halloween Sail on The Phantom Ship

by Mary Jo Manzanares on October 19th, 2007

I never thought I’d be saying that I’d be recommending a high school haunted house, but the Theater Department at Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas (1501 W. Southlake Boulevard) convinced me to change my mind.

First off, the Haunted House is a fundraiser for a very worthy cause — funding a trip for the department to travel to Las Vegas to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera.  The trip is in December, and, as you can imagine, they are scrambling to come up with all the cash that will be needed.

Summoning up the talent of actors, artists, and a lot of community support, the school’s Haunted House is called “The Phantom Ship.”  With special flying ghoul effects provided by the same company that who staged Cathy Rigby’s Broadway flying in Peter Pan, and a 2008 Toyota Scion to raffle off (in black, of course), this is serious Halloween fundraising.

Admission is $10/person.  You can check the schedule and order tickets online here.  Raffle tickets are $20.

They cast and crew of The Phantom Ship have put together a very brief trailer of what you can expect.

This is a great group of kids who are working very hard at their craft, and hoping to attend a professional staging of a Broadway classic.  If you’re in the Southlake area, stopping by The Phantom Ship will give you a scare while helping a student realize a dream.  How can you go wrong with that!
