Try a Mileage Manager
Airlines, hotels, car rentals, credit card companies. It seems like every business in the travel industry has a way for you to accrue miles.
The more miles you have, the higher your status with the travel provider, and the more perks you can expect to receive. Whether it’s free upgrades, rooms, trips, or whatever, everyone is looking for a way to maximize their miles.
But what good do the miles do you, if you can’t keep track of them. I belong to four airline frequent flyer programs, three hotel programs, and have a credit card that accrues miles. I can never seem to keep track of how many miles are in which program, so when I want to cash in some miles it takes too many phone calls to figure out where I stand.
I was skeptical when I read about Mile Tracker, a mileage manager program, at the Road Warrior site, but having recently cashed in some miles for a hotel room and knowing how complicated it had become, I was willing to give it a try.
It was easy to download and set up, but this I expected. The big question in my mind was would it work? It will take some time to input all the accounts and PIN numbers. This was the difficult part for me, as I can’t seem to remember my PIN numbers. I entered those that I knew, and sent off to get those that I didn’t. Once the information was entered ““ voila! The program automatically polled my accounts, giving me an accurate listing of how many points were in each of the accounts.
Once the information is entered, the program automatically maintains and updates the account listings and mileage, meaning I won’t have to do any more work once I get the preliminary information entered.
It’s still too early to know for certain, but I think Mileage Manager may actually help me keep track of my elite status in my frequent flyer programs, as well as make it much easier for me to cash in for some of those freebies.
