Keep Track of How Many Miles You Fly

by Mary Jo Manzanares on August 11th, 2007

flight map A couple of weeks ago a passenger was chatting me up, bragging that he had flown over 150 trips in his lifetime.  That didn’t seem like a lot to me, but it did get me thinking about how much I actually do fly — whether for work or pleasure.

I came across Flight Memory, an online site that has devised a method of storing and keeping track of your flying.

At last, here was a way to keep track of how much I’m flying.

I registered, logged in, and set up entering the data.  I didn’t want to dig out flight schedules from months past, so I just entered data for August.  You enter each flight segment using the airport city codes.  There is an optional section to enter in departure/arrival dates and times.  I entered the date(s), but skipped on the times.

Continuing on to the next page of information, you are prompted to add additional details about your flight.  You can choose to track whether you had an aisle, middle, or window seats, and whether you were flying in coach, business, or first class.  There’s also a check off for business vs. pleasure travel.

A very cool option for flight attendants and pilots, is the option to check off whether you were a working crew member, and if it was a live flight or a simulator.

So how far have I gone this month?  Here are the numbers:

  • 11 Flights
  • 9,964 Miles

Not too bad really!  But then again, we’re not even halfway through the month.  I’ve decided to keep track of my flying for the rest of the year, which means a total of five months.  I wonder how many total flight miles I’ll have logged in at year end.  I’m guessing at least 150,000.

How about you?  How many miles have you flown this year?
