Your Concierge Can Charge You Up

by Mary Jo Manzanares on August 23rd, 2007

I consider myself fairly adept at packing.  I should hope that I’ve reached a modicum of success on this skill, as I have to do it on a near weekly basis.

On a recent trip, however, I found that I had forgotten to pack the charging unit for my cell phone.  I had never done this before, but a change in bags and packing styles resulted in my leaving it behind.

Fortunately, I had fully charged my phone prior to leaving.  However, I knew that even with careful use, I was going to wind up with a dead battery before the trip was up.

Shrugging off the first vestiges of panic, I stopped by the front desk to inquire about any “left behind” chargers.  Chargers are a frequently left behind item, and housekeeping usually has a big box of them in lost and found.  The front desk clerk called housekeeping, but what was needed for my cell phone wasn’t available.  He then checked in the back room to see if there was one lurking there, but again, no luck.

My cell phone juice seemed destined to slowly slip away.

The following day, around noon after many of the checkouts for the day had occurred, I inquired at the front desk again.  Still, nothing that would work with my phone.

I had resolved myself to going to purchase a new one, and inquired at the concierge desk about what was nearby.  Eureka!  The concierge had one that I could borrow!  Turns out, the concierge desk tries to keep one of every type of charger on hand for just such occasions.

I borrowed the unit, got all charged up overnight, and returned everything the following morning.

Mora of the story:  Most travel problems can be resolved if you just keep asking for help.

In this case, it was a helpful concierge desk that was able to get me charged up!
